OEMP
Operational Environmental Management Programme
Atlantic Beach is proudly managed under a comprehensive Operational Environmental Management Programme (OEMP) for the residential estate and the golf Links course. The OEMP is a framework that guides how we protect, restore and enhance our natural environment every day. The OEMP sets clear objectives, responsibilities and monitoring processes that help every department, resident and their service providers and contractors play a role in sustainable living. It governs aspects such as water and waste management, building and construction, landscaping, noise and lighting control, wildlife coexistence and fire preparedness, ensuring that environmental best practice is built into daily estate operations.
Independent audits by Eco Coach SA assess our progress, while regular meetings of the Environmental Liaison Committee (ELC) – including the City of Cape Town’s Biodiversity Management Branch – ensure accountability and ongoing improvement. Together, this partnership keeps Atlantic Beach true to its original vision: Being an eco-estate that balances modern living with respect for nature and long-term sustainability.
Strandveld Biodiversity
Conserving the West Coast Strandveld
The Strandveld biodiversity gives Atlantic Beach its distinctive natural beauty within Cape Town’s West Coast ecology and Cape Floral Kingdom. This unique vegetation type, known as Cape Flats Dune Strandveld, occurs nowhere else on earth and forms part of a critical ecological corridor linking the Blaauwberg Nature Reserve to the south with the Koeberg Nature Reserve and the greater Dassenberg Coastal Catchment Partnership to the north.
Our stewardship supports this rare ecosystem through an approved planting list, ethical water use and ongoing alien vegetation removal. Environmental awareness amongst our community is a key aspect of this stewardship– a living reminder of the biodiversity that makes this coastal environment so special.
Wildlife
Atlantic Beach is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife – from springbok and tortoises to owls, mongooses and the occasional caracal.
Our Human-Wildlife Coexistence Plan promotes safe, respectful interaction between residents, pets and wildlife through education, awareness and clear response procedures. The plan emphasises prevention and understanding: Reducing attractants, protecting natural movement corridors and ensuring that wild animals can roam freely within conservation areas without harm. We work closely with conservation experts to monitor animal populations, manage habitats and respond swiftly to incidents when needed.
